Simmi and Greg : Married

Stalkers, one of my favorite type of weddings to shoot are Hindu wedding.  I absolutely LOVE everything about it.  There’s so much culture and tradition…and yes, its A LOT of hours, my body is absolutely sore after a long weekend of shooting…but it remains a favorite of mine.  Usually, I have a pretty good idea of how everything is going to go down on the wedding day…especially a Hindu wedding since I’ve shot gajillion of them by now.  But at every turn, I would find something unexpected.  Something that would make me giggle in surprise and joy.  Props to Jignasa with KI Weddings   for turning out such an amazing wedding for Simmi and Greg at The Allan House!

This wedding weekend started off on a Wednesday.  Simmi’s getting some major Henna done in preparation for her wedding!

It always amazes how Henna artists are able to just freehand this stuff AND duplicate it on the opposite hand.  Crazy talent!

Simmi and Greg had their rehearsal dinner at Parkside on Sixth Street in Austin, Texas.

Peppers for the table center!!! Love this!

Afterwards everyone headed over to Pete’s Dueling Piano Bar for some late night shenanigans!

Simmi and Greg held the Grah Shanti at their house the day before the wedding.  This basically kickstarts the wedding weekend.

Wedding day prep!!!

I love hanging flower garlands.

The gorgeous mandap.  Yes, that is the sun backlighting the mandap…which I have to admit that when I saw that, I may have spun around in joy for a little bit.

The baraat!  Love the boombox.  I especially LOVE the elephant from Oklahoma.

Downtown Austin was invaded by an out of state elephant that weekend.  I’m curious to see if random strangers instagrammeed about it.

Simmi watching the Baraat from upstairs.

Some serious hops.

The sitar player.  Stalkers, everytime I see a sitar player, I am reminded of Moulin Rouge.  There may have even been an instance or two where I might wanted to scream out:  ”The greatest thing you’ll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return.”    But I didn’t.  Why?  Self-control.

The bride’s mom usually meet the groom and gives him her blessing…

…and grabs his nose.  Why is the nose grab important you may ask?  It means if she’s able to grab a hold of his nose…Greg will have to do everything Simmi’s mom ask of him…..FOREVER.  Like, Forever Ever.

One more photo of the beautiful outdoor ceremony space at the Allan House.

In a Hindu wedding, the bride are usually escorted by her uncles.

“First Look.”

And the official start of the wedding ceremony.  If you’ve never been to one and get a chance…GO!!!  Its gorgeous, beautiful, meaningful.

Stalkers.  I died.  Seriously died when I found out that Simmi and Greg decided to bring in food trucks for lunch.  I heart food trucks.

These two right here.  They make me crave ice cream.

Seriously, CoolHaus needs this little guy for their spokesperson.

Usually after the wedding ceremony, there’s about a 3-5 hours break before the reception.  Ever wonder what happens in the in-between?  The bride gets completely redone and ready again.

We had a little bit of time before cocktail hour, so Greg and Simmi went with me to the Baylor Street Art Wall for a quick couple session.

All the glorious little details.

Mr. and Mrs.!!

The cake cut…

Nothing to see here.  Just your average feeding…

Bollywood dance performances for the guests.

The dancers actually taught the guests a couple of simple steps…which then turned this wedding into a giant flash mob.

I love it when first dances are this perfect.

Stalkers, what you are witnessing here…is the end of the shoe negotiation.  (You see, earlier that day, Greg’s shoes got stolen from the bride’s side.  He had to negotiate to get it back.)  Here they are shaking on the deal.  Usually, it involves a couple of Benjamins…however, this negotiation deal was one of the best I’ve seen.

Greg had to take a shot with one of the brides”man.”  I SAW what they put in the glass…um….NO THANK YOU!

Then he had to serenade to his new bride.  YES PLEASE!

PEDICAB exit!!!

Til Death Do Us Part.  Simmi and Greg, this means Forever.  Like, Forever Ever.  Congratulations!

Calvin and My : Engaged

Stalkers, I heart NYC.  It took me a while to like it the first time and now I’m addicted to that crazy city.  I love the food (OMG, THE FOOD!), the massive amount of people, the bricks, the subway, the HISTORY of the city, and I especially love the smoke coming up from below the city during the fall/wintertime.  So, I’m heading back there in just a few weeks, because I’m sure the city misses me as much as I miss it.  Which got me to thinking that I needed to share Calvin and My’s esession out there in New York in early September during Fashion Week.  (Smart move right?)  Calvin and My love the whole Great Gatsby / Vintage theme, so I thought for their esesh blog, I’ll give it an old school black and white treatment.

Stalkers, meet Calvin and My.   We started the shoot around Bryant Park.  I adore suspenders and bowties and cute lace dresses.

Then we went to my favorite place in the city, The New York City Public Library. There was a wedding happening when we got here.:)

But I found this little empty nook on the side of the library that was just begging to be in photos.

We of course headed over to Grand Central Terminal.  It’s a must for that vintage theme session.

In a city with a gabillions people, we happened upon an empty subway track.

We finished up the shoot in the middle of Times Square.

No, this road was not closed for cars.  We waited and waited and waited for a yellow cab to take photos in front of…You would think they would be a dime a dozen.  Apparently, not when you’re looking for them.  So an empty road in Times Square it is.  (Who knew this would even be possible??!!!)

Finally!!!  A cab!!!  Success!

Sherry and Kevin : Engaged

Spent the day yesterday exploring Austin nooks and crannies with Sherry and Kevin.  Pretty sunlight hitting the trees at all the right places.  A random swan paddleboat on the broken pier at Lady Bird lake.  And catching sunset with 100 other people at the top of Mount Bonnell.

Stalkers, you know its a good day when you see a cowboy riding a dog at the lake.

Meet Sherry and Kevin and some delicious sunflares.

In the middle of shooting this, the swan was actually on the side of the dock…but yet serendipitiously enough, the Swan boat started to move and positioned itself right behind them…in perfect position.

Beautiful floral embroidery on Sherry’s sari.  Love.

So the original plan was to rent a canoe and shoot some canoeing photos….well, when we got there, there were lots of yellow caution tape.  (We walked around it).  And lots of beached canoes.  And nowhere to rent them.  But, this may not have been a bad thing after all.:)

My favorite image from yesterday.

Bach and Kirk : Engaged

Stalkers, I absolutely HEART California.  I love the beaches there, the sunshine, the palm trees, and yes, even the smog (it gives me a bit of overcast for shooting.)  So when I found out that Kirk and Bach lived in LA and wanted to do their esesh out there, I envisioned a cute little session out on Santa Monica beach.  Or perhaps strolling Venice Beach with all its quirkiness.  So when Bach emailed me and told me that they would like to do their entire shoot around their neighborhood…I guess I was down for that?  Honestly, my heart sunk JUST a little bit at that news…but stalkers, I seriously ADORE their session at home.  It’s intimate and goofy and fun…and very Bach and Kirk.  So I guess next time in California, I’ll shoot the beaches and boardwalk…or maybe I’ll just do another session at the couple’s home.

Stalkers, meet Boogie.  He has Bach’s entire heart.

In their beautiful backyard with all the wonderful fruit trees.

I love how effortless they are with one another.

Stalkers, I did a little tour of their house…saw their master bedroom…and FELL IN LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT.  Windows everywhere and white billowy curtains.

A little bit of love at the beautiful staircase.  (They aren’t this cheesy.  Their photographer is though.)

Boogie!!!!  I think he and my puppy could become best friends if they ever met.

I love this!!!  Yes, Kirk’s book is upside down on purpose.  He’s not really into Shakespeare while she is.

Apparently this sums up their everyday life.  He cooks.  She drinks wine.

California skies and palm trees right outside their balcony.

Megan and Clay : Married

A wedding outdoor in Austin, Texas with a pink ruffly wedding dress?  Yes, PLEASE!  Stalkers, meet Megan and Clay. They tied the knot out at the beautiful Barr Mansion.  It started to rain a little bit on their wedding day, but as soon as it was time for the wedding to start, all the rain clouds disappeared, and we were left with beautiful overcast.  Absolute perfection for a wedding under a big oak tree.

The beautiful Barr Mansion.  Stalkers, one of the very first wedding I’ve ever shot in Austin was at Barr Mansion, so this place holds a lot of memories for me.

The bride with her girls and her mom, saying a quick prayer before Megan heads out for her First Look!

Before we get to the First Look, Megan asked her dad to escort her down to Clay.  This moment between Megan and her dad were just too wonderful not to share.

Finally!  Clay’s first moment with Megan…

Stalkers!  THIS hug right here!!!!  This is why I always encourage a First Look if you have the time.

And since we had some extra time, we did some couple photos around the venue before the guests arrive.

I love all the details on the bridal bouquet.  Lace handkerchief and gold locket give this peony bouquet a personal touch.

It started to sprinkle just a tad, so we headed back inside.  Clay took this moment to give Megan her gift and note.

Wedding Party PICTURES!  I love that since we got the “First Look” out of the way…we were able to have plenty of time with the wedding party!

Love that Megan dressed her bridesmaids in white dresses.

Boys will be boys!

Instead of your typical bride’s photo with her wedding party, Megan wanted to personalize it by showing how they first met.  Adore their creativity and goofiness!

I found these two through the windows when we were walking back into Barr Mansion to regroup before the ceremony… cute are their little outfits?

Some ceremony details.  Instead of a unity candle or sand, Megan and Clay decided to plant a cactus together to start off their life together.

The bible bearer.  LOVE!

Almost every wedding..there’s that last silent moment/look between the dad and the bride that I absolutely love finding when going through images.

And Clay’s first look at Megan walking down the aisle.  Yes, he has “seen” her already, but I promise you that there’s still lots of butterflies left over.

I love this look Megan gave her mom before she gets to Clay.

These BLUE heels right here.  It’s in memory of Megan’s sister who although couldn’t be with her in person was definitely there with her in spirit.  I mean how else could you have explained the beautiful weather and gorgeous sunlight.

Officially MR. and MRS!!!

One word.  Awesome.

The descent.  It’s still awesome.

Seriously, this light.  I dragged Megan and Clay over to this spot and kicked out the guests who were here hanging out.  Yes, THIS light.  If you see it, covet it for yourself!

ADORABLE.  Megan and her nephew.

I heart suspenders.  Umm…to all my future grooms, can you please let us know if you have suspenders under that jacket?  Thanks!

I saw the bridesmaid doing this….

…so I placed Megan and Clay here!:)

More adorableness…

…mixed with some silliness.

I’ve always wanted to shoot a wedding that had lawn games!

Barr Mansion locally sourced organic food.  So DELISH!

Stalkers, I have a weakness for baby’s breath in mason jars at weddings.  Like a really serious weakness for them.

First Dance!

This cake feeding picture seriously cracks me up everytime I come across it.

And I love that this little guy is holding THREE forks under his chin!

I found out that the boys had some cigar time in mind…so of course I had to take advantage of the situation…

Yeah.  Seriously one of my favorite groom’s portraits…

Megan and Clay had a live jazz band at their wedding…I love this guy and his “instrument”!

Yes, it was this KIND of party.:)

Megan surprised Clay by serenading him with You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman.

An Austin version of the second line.:)

Yummy late night snack.

Congratulations Megan and Clay!
